FAFSA

FAFSA ... Free Application for Federal Student Aid

This website is open to seniors in January of their senior year.  The application that the student will apply for is the year of the first year in college.  Example:  Seniors 2012 will apply for the FAFSA 2012-2013 and will not be on the website until January.  Tax information will be needed from the student and parent of the full year 2011.

The website is www.fafsa.ed.gov

Student and parent will need to apply for a PIN number (Personal Identification Number) which allows the student and parent to sign the FAFSA electronically.

The website is www.PIN.ed.gov or can use the www.fafsa.ed.gov website.

The deadline is usually in June but the sooner done the sooner the information will be sent to the college's financial aid department. It is most definitely a "first come first serve" basis.

Most colleges will then send a financial aid letter to the student usually in March of the senior's spring semester.
